Dr. Johnson is featured in the August 2001 issue of Black Enterprise Magazine as amongst the top 101 leading Black Doctors in the United States. He was the only optometrist listed in this elite group.

  • Dr. Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.
  • He is a graduate of the Doctor of Optometry program at the New England College of Optometry in Boston Massachusetts in 1985.
  • Dr. Johnson has done research for the Glaucoma Research Foundation based in California and well as participated with them on their national public education projects on Glaucoma.
  • He serves on the Board of Directors for United Eye Care Providers (www.UECP.com) as well on the executive board for the Central Cities Optometric Society.
  • Member of the Illinois National Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
  • He has received numerous awards including the following:
    • Outstanding Achievement in Medicine Award from National Head Start Association - Awarded in Washington D.C. - 1995
    • Recognized in White House Ceremony by President Clinton as a Head Start success and role model 1994.
    • Featured several times on WGNTV Channel 9, "Ask The Doctor" segment as an eye care expert and glaucoma authority.
    • Outstanding Young Alumni Award - Illinois Wesleyan University 1994
    • Dwight D. Eisenhower H.S. - Blue Island, Alumni Hall of Fame.
    • Outstanding Citizenship Award - Governors State University Ralph Turner Endowed Scholarship foundation 1993
    • Illinois Department of Professional Regulation Board of Optometry 1999 to Present
    • St. Francis Hospital Advisory Board 1994 -1999.
    • Board Member - Illinois Wesleyan Minority Alumni Network, 1991 to present
